Olympic Rings Re-Use Project
Riello Construction were commissioned by the University to look at an innovative way to re-use and upcycle a set of timber Olympic rings which designed for the London 2012 Olympics and later donated to the University.
After consultation with the client, the solution which provided the students the most value involved adapting the rings to form a ‘Chill Out’ zone and area of respite. The newly created wooden pods were adapted to include solar panels which powered a series of USB charging points within the newly re-configured pods.
Part of the solution involved moving the rings to one specific location on the campus where students would benefit the most whilst improving the local learning environment.
